Named after the mountain peaks or “crescents” of the surrounding San Gabriel and Verdugo Mountains, La Crescenta is known as “The Balcony of Southern California”. A split in the foothills to the south of the city gives residents a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean as well cool ocean breezes which provide much-needed relief from summer’s heat. La Crescenta is the ideal community for people who are looking for a city with more of a “small town” atmosphere.
Over the years, the La Crescenta Motel has been a popular location site for movies and TV shows. Built in the 1950’s, feature films including “House of Sand and Fog” and “The Portal” have been shot at the motel along with some popular TV programs such as “True Blood”, “Criminal Minds”, and “X-files”.
