La Crescenta
The community of La Crescenta lies between the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. Named after the mountain peaks or “crescents” of the surrounding San Gabriel and Verdugo Mountains, La Crescenta is known as “The Balcony of Southern California”. A split in the foothills to the south of the city gives residents a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean as well as cool ocean breezes which provide much-needed relief from summer’s heat.
Over the years, the La Crescenta Motel has been a popular location site for movies and TV shows. Built in the 1950’s, feature films including “House of Sand and Fog” and “The Portal” have been shot at the motel along with some popular TV programs such as “True Blood,” “Criminal Minds,” and “X-files”.
La Crescenta is the ideal community for people who are looking for a city with more of a “small town” atmosphere. La Crescenta has developed an identity based on having great schools and safe neighborhoods as well as plenty of recreational opportunities.
Its proximity to the Angeles National Forest provides residents and visitors alike a variety of scenic hiking and mountain biking trails. The Montrose Shopping Park is a beautiful street, lined with trees, that is host to a variety of restaurants, boutiques, service shops, clothing stores, and fitness studios.
For La Crescenta commuters, you can drive anywhere from Pasadena to downtown L.A. in about 30 minutes which has made it a popular bedroom community. However, that 30 minute drive can take commuters on some of the busiest and most congested roads in the greater L.A. area — the Harbor Freeway, Ventura Freeway, and U.S. 101, — so that 30 minute drive can end up being a lot longer if you get caught in the daily traffic jams on highways in and around Los Angeles.
The number of freeway accidents in L.A. County per capita is the largest in the U.S. What does this mean for residents of La Crescenta and other neighboring communities? The likelihood that you’re going to be involved in a car accident is high compared with commuters in other parts of the country.
While you can’t control the aggressive and/or distracted drivers on the roadways, you can be proactive when it comes to protecting yourself. Learn to drive defensively, eliminate your distractions while driving, and make sure that you have the best auto insurance coverage if you end up being involved in an accident.
If you haven’t recently reviewed your auto insurance policy, now is the time to do so. Are you covered in case you’re involved in an accident with an underinsured or uninsured motorist? If not, you may want to consider adding this type of coverage to your policy.
